Jersey was occupied by Neanderthal man 100,000 B.C., and by Iberians of 2,000 B.C., who left their chamber tombs in the Island's granite cliffs. The dependency is administered by its own laws and customs; laws enacted by the British Parliament do not apply to Jersey unless it is specifically mentioned. During World War II (1939/1945), German troops occupied the Island from 1st. July 1940 until 9th. May 1945. Coins of pre-Roman Gaul and of Rome have been found in abundance on Jersey. |
