Raku, or Raku Yaki, is the unique Japanese firing method noteworthy for the fact that the bisque and final glaze firings occur simultaneously, and in which combusted organic materials are used to infuse color, iridescence, or sometimes even textural impressions into the glaze and bisque ware during a rapid cooling phase.
