Raku Chawan - 3 masters
represented - Note: 6 works of Chojiro are shown. He is the founder
of Raku Yaki, and is a former brick maker. Fortunately for world
heritage, the tea master Rikyuu (who coined the term "wabi-sabi")
persuaded Chojiro to produce chawan.

Even though this book is in Japanese, it
mercifully has hiragana sub-script besides all the Kanji name references, so if
you have a simple hiragana
pronunciation chart, you will be able to read all the style names. The
book also has a nice comparison chart of the various styles, as well as a line
drawing showing the different aspects of the chawan.
All these are museum pieces, and
represent the pinnacle of their respective styles.
Serious tea ceremony practitioners and
student must become familiar with the gestalt and application of all the major chawan
