Kakemono E - Hanging Scroll Imagery The sublime qualities of the tea room are enhanced by the hanging scrolls - they are an inseparable component of tea ceremony experience. In very early times, the cultural elite of Japan, like the Shogun and Feudal Lords, were captivated by the ornate beauty of Chinese paintings, and collected them to decorate their study rooms. With the development of the Chano Yuu (Tea Ceremony), chashitsu (tea rooms) were also decorated with Chinese paintings. However, due to the profound influence of Senno Riekyuu on Chano Yuu, and his idea of Wabi Sabi (humble simplicity), and the resultant evolution of the small-footprint tea room, it came to be accepted that the simpler, more mono-toned and impressionistic Japanese style painting was more suitable for the chashitsu. 176 pgs - 6 x 8.25 inches - Text: Japanese - Condition: Like New Shipping: SAL shipping is slightly
