Japanese Meiji Shibayama Mother-of-Pearl Corner Cabinet

Description:
This is a stunning, late 19th Century walnut corner cabinet, with an inset Japanese "Meiji" period late 19th Century walnut veneered "Shibayama" mother-of-pearl bone carved panel.  The panel features beautiful raised and inlaid walnut tree branches decorated with flowers and leaves below which is a fabulous "Asiatic Pheasant" in carved bone. The flowers and leaves are beautifully carved in mother-of-pearl and bone.  This is possibly an imported panel or an imported piece of furniture that was separated, at some period, into singular panels, possibly from a screen or similar.  The cabinet stands on a canted bracket foot stile plinth having a single open shelf over, with a curved or arched frieze rail over, the walnut door having this beautiful inset Japanese panel with beautiful exposed hinges of engraved and pierced form - of classic Arts and Crafts design, having a flared cornice over with a solid walnut top.  Behind the door is a single fitted shelf which is removable. The cabinet comes complete with its original escutcheon and working lock and key.  A very attractive piece of furniture, of very nice quality.  The cabinet retains its original finish, having a lovely rich walnut colour.  A fabulous pretty original antique piece of furniture.

The cabinet dates circa 1900, the panel circa 1880.

Condition:
The cabinet is in good condition for its age, having minor wear giving the item character and authenticity.  There are one or two small pieces of mother-of-pearl missing, these having been lost over the years, of little consequence but worth a mention.
