Exhibition Catalogue - Juzo Kagoshima  (b. 1898 - d.1982) - VERY RARE

Catalogue is from a 1997 exhibition 

Juzo Kagoshima was a Japanese doll maker and designated a Living National Treasure (Ningen Kokuho) by the Japanese Ministry of Culture in 1961 

He worked with various traditional Japanese forms, but also created his own unique and distinctive styles.  His work is highly coveted by collectors and curators in Japan, and elsewhere. 

This is a very robust publication, in good condition (see detailed description of condition below).  It is very generously illustrated with color images of Kagoshima's works, and includes a section showing many Hako-gaki (notations written by the artist on container boxes), as well as a section of sketches, paintings, and tiles.  

A rare reference piece for those interested in Japanese dolls makers who were Living National Treasures.

Text: Japanese - 190 pages - Large display format: 21 x 30 cm  - Condition:  The covers have shelf some scuffing which is not very noticeable on the front cover, but more noticeable on the back because the back has a black finish - I tried to photograph this but cannot make it appear in photos, so please consider this if you are interested.  There is also a small and minor dog-ear crease on the top corner of the back cover, but it is rather minor as I said, and you may not notice it.  There is also a bit if scotch tape remnants on the 1st blank page (probably held a ticket to the exhibition, but it was removed).
