James Lawson Stewart

1829-1911

"Marshes near Kings Lynn, Norfolk"

The Painting

This is a very nice watercolour painting by James Lawson Stewart, the painting is signed with his very distinctive monogram lower left.

It is a slightly unusual subject for him as he tended to paint buildings rather then landscape scenes.  The painting depicts marshland with a sailing boat near Kings Lynn, Norfolk, and is very typical of his detailed style.

The Artist

James Lawson Stewart trained as an architect but became known as a watercolour painter.  His paintings clearly show his architectural training with an incredible accuracy and attention to detail. He travelled all over the United Kingdom painting mostly buildings and monuments.

He exhibited at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Painters in Oils and Suffolk Street Gallery.

Condition

The painting is in excellent condition with no foxing or other damage.

Size

It measures 58 cm by 38 cm (framed)  35 cm by 16 cm (picture area)

Packing: All of our items are professionally packed all oil paintings and most watercolours and prints are packed using a custom made wooden packing case (no charge) to insure they arrive safely. We normally dispatch between one and two working days.

Shipping: We only use FedEx or DHL for all delivery's (over 5 kgs) both of which are fully tracked online. We do not use surface or "economy" shipping for overseas buyers as it can take up to 10 weeks and no tracking or insurance is available. The UK shipping price is for mainland only and excludes NI and Scottish Highlands and Islands. The USA shipping price is for mainland only and excludes Alaska and Hawaii.

Please note some countries are expensive for us to ship to, if you have any doubt whatsoever please contact us before bidding and we will be happy to quote you a fixed price for your destination.

Handling Time: As all our paintings are proffisionally packed it takes one working day (two for large paintings) for them to be packed and made ready for shipment. Paintings are normally dispatched Monday to Thursday (we prefer not to ship on a Friday as DHL/Fedex do not deliver over a weekend and this reduces the time in transit).  We always send an email confirming dispatch and providing on line tracking information.

Insurance: Insurance against loss only for £100 is included in all our shipping prices free of charge. Additional insurance against loss of up to £5,000 is available at an extra cost of 2%  of the total value with a minimum charge of £7.50. We can not add insurance once an item has been shipped. We are always happy to remove glass from pictures if requested.

Payment: We accept PayPal, cheques drawn on UK banks, building society cheques, UK postal orders, and payments directly to our bank accounts. Please note we do not accept PayPal "eCheques" due to the length of time these take to clear.

Please would wining bidders make contact by email within one day and, payment within three days of the end of the auction. If this is not possible for any reason then please contact us prior to bidding and we will be happy to make alternative arrangements.
