The Jacob fleece is open, soft & light. The black wool grows from black skin and the white from pink/white skin. Mottling/freckling of the skin is undesirable as it affects the appearance of the fleece. Jacob fleeces are highly sought after by handspinners and make up into beautiful wool. Fleeces average 3 to 6 pounds in weight but some of mine weigh more & have a staple of 3 to 7 inches. The fleece is a soft medium wool with a healthy lustre and sheen - average micron of 34 and ranges on the Bradford scale from 48 to 54.

You are bidding on a FULL fleece from my pedigree flock. The photo shows me shearing my ram. Because he is such a big animal, I am not strong enough to turn him over to shear him in the conventional manner which is why he is standing up. Consequently I take the fleece off in two pieces because I start at the spine, do one side first and then the other side. All my sheep are large so I do all the ewes and shearlings in the same way.   Some of my large sheep have been sheared by a strong man so the fleece is in one piece.

The fleece is not cleaned and may contain some vegetable matter eg hay/grass.

The sheep have not been dipped and are fed only on grass and non GM supplementary food such as oats and barley.

Animals from my flock have won the Jacob Sheep Society Wool Cup three times against some of the best sheep in the country.

The fleece can either be posted or collected. If collected then a cash payment will be required
