Item specifics
Country: ScotlandType: Banknote

I have for auction a Scottish five pound banknote which honours Jack Nicklaus' appearance in The Open which was held at the home of golf, St Andrews in 2005.  The note, JWN0531650, has been circulated but is in otherwise perfect condition.

These banknotes were a limited edition and are now very scarce as they have all been snapped up by collectors ........ or at least speculators!!

The note will be shipped promptly from Ayr in Scotland which is 10 miles from Royal Troon, 15 miles from Turnberry and 3 miles from Old Prestwick, http://www.prestwickgc.co.uk/ which was the venue for the very first Open Championship in 1860

Below is the text from the Jack Nicklaus website, http://www.nicklaus.com/nicklaus_news/news071205b.php

The 65-year-old brings to an end a career that includes 18 major wins at this week's Open at St Andrews - scene of two of his three Open triumphs.

The American is only the third person after the Queen and Queen Mother to be honoured this way in their lifetime.

"He is one of the greatest sporting icons there's ever been," said Royal Bank of Scotland director Howard Moody.

As well as his three Open victories, Nicklaus - dubbed the Golden Bear - also landed six Masters titles plus four US Opens and five USPGAs, making him the most successful golfer of all time.

Moody added on BBC Radio Five Live's breakfast programme: "Remember all the hype about Tiger Woods? But Tiger's only won nine majors.

"Jack won 18 majors and of those 18 the three Opens that he won were in Scotland, so we think this is a day for celebration of a great sportsman."

Nicklaus will partner England's Luke Donald and fellow American Tom Watson for Thursday's first round at St Andrews.

The trio will tee off at 0737 BST.
