JUST FOR ANIMALS - A film of the life and work of Miss M. Raymonde-Hawkins, M.B.E.
Starting with her childhood in Reading at the beginning of the century, it moves on to the foundation of the Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare in the 1950s and follows its development from a few animals in Miss Raymonde-Hawkins' garden to its present position as one of the premier animal welfare centres in the South of England.
Along the way Miss Raymonde-Hawkins had to overcome many crises while also pursuing campaigns on behalf of animals including work in both Ireland and Venice.
The Raystede Centre now recievesabout 3,000 needy animals a year be they dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, birds, rabbits, terrapins or even snakes. In addition there are boarding, quarantine and cremation facilities at the Centre, all the result of Miss Raymonde-Hawkins' energy, drive and single-mindedness in pursuit of improvements in animal welfare.
A galaxy of stars from stage and screen appear in the film including Katie Boyle, Janet Brown, Penelope Keith, Dora Bryan, Alexandra Bastedo and Kenneth Kendall. Many of the people involved in the work of Raystede over the last forty years are also featured.
This is an enjoyable and inspirational film by Peter Bluck.
