Jupiter-9 is a long focus coated lens for FED, Zorki, Leica, Bessa and other rangefinder cameras with same lens mount and with same optical registration.

First Russian lenses for 35 RF cameras (known as BK and ZK lenses) were created at KMZ plant on the base of of Zeiss and Leica equipment, which was imported to the USSR for production towards reparations after WW2.

All the Soviet plants which issued photo equipment (include famous KMZ, LOMO, Arsenal and Litkarino plants) mostly issued military equipment, and little part only were for civil purposes, and those civil goods had enough high quality to receive World glory for best ratio price/quality.

Jupiter-9 is just a copy of famous Carl Zeiss Sonnar fast lens.

In the main, most all Soviet lenses are exceptionally good and this one is no exception!

The glass is mostlyy clean, with no scratches or fungus, but some minor cleaning marks at the front optical element are presented. Those marks will not impact on image  quality (see the note below, please).

Aperture blades open and close smoothly, focusing is smooth too... even most of Jupiter-9 lenses has slightly tight focusing.

Some oil at aperture leafs is presented, but it is usual feature of a lot of Russian lenses.

Cosmetically lens is in excellent+ condition, it still very nice and attractive... just examine item's photos, please.

NOTE: Soviet lens manufacturers wrote even about NEW lenses:

"The components of modern high quality lenses are produced from special grades of glass. The smelting process involved causes inevitable formation of gasses which get trapped in the glass to form bubbles. They are always noticed with complex photographic lenses. The bubbles do not affect the lens performance or the quality of the image. Soviet state standards also allows the presence of next minor defects: scratches with the width less than 0.02mm at each surface of each optical element with total length no more than double element's diameter; dots with diameter less than 0.3mm no more than 5 dots; several minor pieces of dust and no more 2 napkin fibers with the length no more 3mm. Therefore, the factory does not accept claims about bubbles and minor defects of clearance found in lenses or exchange such lenses."
