JUPITER-9 85mm f2.0 lens Kiev Contax Bessa Sonnar copy

Jupiter-9 is a long focus coated lens for Kiev, Contax, Bessa-R2C and other rangefinder cameras with same lens mount and with same optical registration.

First Russian lenses for 35 RF cameras (known as BK and ZK lenses) were created at KMZ plant on the base of of Zeiss and Leica equipment, which was imported to the USSR for production towards reparations after WW2.

All the Soviet plants which issued photo equipment (include famous KMZ, LOMO, Arsenal and Litkarino plants) mostly issued military equipment, and little part only were for civil purposes, and those civil goods had enough high quality to receive World glory for best ratio price/quality.

Jupiter-9 is just a copy of famous Carl Zeiss Sonnar fast lens.

In the main, most all Soviet lenses are exceptionally good and this one is no exception!

The glass is very clean, with no scratches, air bubbles or fungus, but with minor matte areas inside, looks like skipped in cleaning...Those negative feature will not seriously impact on image quality, see the note below, please.

Some oil at aperture leafs is exists, it is very common thing for a lot of Russian lenses.

Aperture blades open and close smoothly, focusing is enough smooth too... even most of Jupiter-9 lenses has slightly tight focusing.

Cosmetically lens is in fine condition.

NOTE: Soviet lens manufacturers wrote even about NEW lenses:

"The components of modern high quality lenses are produced from special grades of glass. The smelting process involved causes inevitable formation of gasses which get trapped in the glass to form bubbles. They are always noticed with complex photographic lenses. The bubbles do not affect the lens performance or the quality of the image. Soviet state standards also allows the presence of next minor defects: scratches with the width less than 0.02mm at each surface of each optical element with total length no more than double element's diameter; dots with diameter less than 0.3mm no more than 5 dots; several minor pieces of dust and no more 2 napkin fibers with the length no more 3mm. Therefore, the factory does not accept claims about bubbles and minor defects of clearance found in lenses or exchange such lenses."
