My laptops are from various sources (Government Offices, Schools,  MOD,  Insurance Companies,  Corporate Clearances, Private Individuals etc).

When it comes to testing individual components it is totally different to testing desktops for three main reasons:

1,   Firstly laptops are not very generic - so when it comes to testing individual units it is a lot harder than testing desktop PCs.  If a desktop PC has faulty graphics that stops it from booting up  – easy just replace the card (on in the case of faulty on board graphics just add a card - there are only 4 options – AGP, PCI, PCI-E and ISA).  With laptops no – they normally have built in graphics and if they are faulty further testing of other components is commercially near impossible .  Some laptops have separate (removable) graphics cards, again these are very model specific and do not allow you the freedom to swap between one make and another for testing purposes.

2,    Normally  the AC Adaptor (power supply) is missing this always causes problems.  Generic power supplies are very questionable (if you are 0.5 of a volt out, bang goes your motherboard).  There is no standard with Laptop AC Adapters – you need the exact one (Even between models from the same manufacture they require different power imputs – I have over 100 different AC Adaptors for testing laptops and that still isn’t enough)

3,   Inevitably when laptops arrive to me they are missing various components (hard drives you expect), but not RAM, optical drives, AC Adapters etc.  (There must be office draws up and down the country full of laptop bits and bobs that are never going to be used again!).  Again these have normally be removed by people who are a little computer unsympathetic and again inevitably a peripheral component is damaged which needs to be changed in order to boot the computer up which sometimes is near impossible because I do not have that particular component.

With this is mind I am only able to fully test about 70% of laptops fully - so what I am saying is that any part that I am selling is being sold all good, covered by my selling standards (unless a particular problem is specified on the listing).  If the part that you have brought from me does not work, you will be fully refunded including your postage both ways (you will not lose a penny, only a little time) – if you check my feedback you will see I honour any faulty products.  If you have any questions – please feel free to e mail me.
