Joseph Hocking, 1860-1937, author and clergyman preacher, born in Cornwall, son of the overseer of a tin mine, brother to the authors Silas and Salome Hocking, and father of the mystery writer Anne Hocking.
His novels include Cornish stories, mystery and crime, war, and pioneering historical romance.

This is Hocking's story set on the Cornish coast, a family saga told as a story within a story with a plot containing  gothic elements, a family curse and secrets, witches, a strange vision, and the opening of a burial vault at night.

A solid binding , browning to endpapers, pages are clean, all complete. Prize bookplate on front endpaper of the Pitt Street Brotherhood, Barnsley, dated 1915.
