First editions, printings as indicated below; 1) THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING 1961 10th impression. 423 pages plus fold-out map. With original dust jacket marked "tenth impression". 2) THE TWO TOWERS 1960 7th impression. 352 pages plus fold-out map. With original dust jacket marked "seventh impression". 3) RETURN OF THE KING 1960 6th impression. 416 pages plus fold-out map. With original dust jacket marked "sixth impression" The three volumes contained in the publisher's original slipcase.
CONDITION 1) FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING Boards are in very good condition. Some light marks or areas of mild discolouration to upper and lower boards. Slight softening to spine tips. Head of spine slightly faded. Internally the pages and map are clean and in excellent condition. The dust jacket is not price-clipped showing the original price of 21s net. Chipping/wear to spine tips and corners. A number of tears as follows; 1) 0.5cm tear to rear panel at the top of the fold. 2) 9cm tear (with associated creasing and short tears) to rear panel at the bottom of the fold. 3) 3.5cm tear to front panel at top of the fold. 4) 1cm tear to front panel at the bottom of the fold. 5) 4 tears to spine tips at joints (4cm, 2.5cm, 2cm and 2cm). 6) 2 tears half way up spine (1cm and 0.5cm). Some darkening to spine. Rubbing to folds. Slight darkening to rear panel. The jacket is now protected in a removable plastic sleeve (shown in the last photo only). 2) THE TWO TOWERS
Boards are in very good plus condition, clean with just a couple of light marks to the boards and spine. Slight softening to spine tips. Spine faded. Internally the pages and map are clean and in excellent condition. The dust jacket is not price-clipped showing the original price of 21s net. Very mild wear to spine tips and corners. Some darkening and staining to spine. Rubbing to folds. Red mark (leeching from boards) to very top edge of rear panel. Otherwise a clean and bright jacket. The jacket is now protected in a removable plastic sleeve (shown in the last two photos)
3) THE RETURN OF THE KING Boards are clean and in very good plus condition. Internally the pages and map are clean and in excellent condition. The dust jacket is not price-clipped showing the original price of 21s net. Chipping/wear with short tears to spine tips and corners. A large chip to foot of spine. Some darkening and a few marks to spine. A couple of very light marks to the front panel. Rubbing to folds. Otherwise a clean and bright jacket. The jacket is now protected in a removable plastic sleeve (shown in the last 2 photos). SLIPCASE The slipcase is rubbed and marked with the beginnings of cracking at some joints. Mild soiling. Darkening to title label. Still a solid functional slipcase. A very nice, set of Tolkien's acclaimed trilogy. Books at £200 and over will be sent within 48 hours by special delivery with insurance to the full value of the book. There will not be any additional charge for this service, above the stated postage costs. Shipping overseas Shipping rates as detailed below All books under £200 will be sent by Royal Mail airmail within 48 hours of receipt of payment. Books at £200 and over will be sent within 48 hours by Royal Mail 'Airsure' (or 'International Signed For' where 'Airsure' is not available) with insurance to the full value of the book. Once the book has been mailed I will Email you notification together with a reference number which will enable you to track or trace your delivery online. There will not be any additional charge for this service above the stated shipping costs. Combined postage I will combine postage/shipping costs. Where more than one item is purchased please request an invoice when you have finished buying. I will send an amended invoice reflecting the reduced postage/shipping costs.
