BIM, Blob Top, Aqua Soda or Beer Bottle, embossed in round slugplate with "J.J. KERN PITTSTON PA," on three lines. This is a really interesting bottle with a lot of character. There is whittling in the glass, stretch marks in the neck that actually carry all the way down to the slugplate area, and very cool ghost embossing marks on three lines on the back of the bottle, but these are not within what would be a slugplate, they are horizontally across the back of the bottle, and larger then the letters of the slugplate on the front. These are hard to describe and I have never seen them before, but they are not able to be read as letters, they are more roundish and square impressions in the glass in perfect formation straight across, and the outlines of them can be felt with a finger...there are 20 of these marks on three lines across the back of the bottle. They can be seen with the naked eye, but even better when held up to light. I would estimate the age of this bottle to be between the 1860s-1880s. The seams stop 1" before the bottom of the blob top. This bottle was produced in a three piece post mold with the side seams continuing around the heel of the base, onto the base and then connecting with a crude round circular seam on the bottom. This bottle is approximately 9" tall and in good condition. It is fairly clean, with only some minor white haziness inside and a few small light spots of rust colored residue. The bottle has a shallow chip on the top of the lip and a small ding, less then 1/4", at the bottom, next to a seam. This was a dug bottle, so it has some very very minor scuff marks on the body and wear marks on the bottom heel base. This is all noted for accuracy, but this is an awesome bottle! None of the above descriptions detract from this bottle's beauty, crudeness or character in any way, and even the small chip on the lip is toward the back and not something that is overly noticeable...see all the photos below. Great bottle!!
