Title: Ironwood African Cape Buffalo Carving Zimbabwe
Dimensions: Approx 9" high x 5" deep x 14" Long
Material: Ironwood
This ironwood sculpture of an African Cape Buffalo is an excellent carving.
Ironwood is a dense hardwood, indigenous to Africa. It occurs in the forest lands of western Zimbabwe. Artists select their Ironwood from trees that have naturally fallen in the forest, and let the wood weather naturally. It is not uncommon to find Ironwood that has been weathered for three to four years.
Local artists spend many hours hand carving a single log into a fine specimen of nature. The intense detail throughout the sculpture is amazing considering the lack of modern tools available to the artist.
The piece is polished to a rich reddish-brown color which will add a touch of Africa to any home, bringing beauty to your space, and complimenting any décor style.
Zimbabwean art is world renouned, since the artform reached the West in the Early 70’s. These folk have been carving such masterpieces for hundreds of years, but went undiscovered for most of the time.
Buy with confidence, as we import only the finest pieces hand selected by our buyers who have worked with these artists for over 40 years.
