Impressionist Harbour Moonlight Ships Pastel Painting

Description: An exquisite maritime scene pastel on artist's paper, signed "SK"? and dating circa 1900 - 1920. Framed - approx 18 X 22 inches (45.72 X 55.88cm). This is an exquisite English Impressionist pastel dating from the early 20th Century period. The maritime scene depicts an exquisite atmospheric impressionist image of vessels moored in a harbour at nightfall. A true "Monetesque" composition with hints of realism, the moonlight beams down on vessels moored in the quiet still waters, steam billowing from funnels and chimneys rising into the dark night sky, the twinkling lights from ships and buildings surrounding glistening on the moonlit waters. A truly evocative composition. The work is signed "SK"? lower right.

Date: The pastel probably dates to around 1900 - 1920.

Framing: Contemporary classic scroll and floral moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt. The pastel is mounted on board.

Condition: The pastel, set behind glass, is in good condition, having one or two minor marks, namely to the left sky area, of no detriment to the drawing itself. The frame has a few chips and pieces of moulding missing consistent with age and this type of delicate material.
