The beautiful Impressionist Portrait of a seated woman in a park is an original oil on canvas by the talented contemporary American artist Alfred Herr (20th Century). The peace is fluently executed reminiscent of the French Impressionist style, loosely submerging the figurative elements into abstract space. The painting resonates with the calm airy atmosphere of an Indian Summer day in nature! This classically painted park scene will adorn any space it will grace! The piece is signed and dated (2004) by the artist.
About the artist in his own words: Albert Herr
January 2006
After
military service I studied painting and drawing at the Art Students
League in New York and at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center. I then
started working in commercial art doing layouts and comprehensive
sketching for advertising agencies and magazines. After a few years I
was able to break into courtroom sketching for television news
programs. (At the time New York and New Jersey did not allow cameras in
their courtrooms.) I found the work more interesting, more challenging,
and more lucrative than advertising and did it for twenty years. Among
the trials I covered were David Berkowitz (Son of Sam), John Gotti,
ABSCAM, Leona Helmsley, and Emelda Marcos.
I
also sketched the Senate in Washington before cameras were allowed in
that chamber. During this time I won four Certificates of Merit at the
Broadcast Designers’ Association Annual Design Competition.
Twelve
years ago I stopped doing courtroom work in order to get back to
painting full time. I took classes at the League and the National
Academy of Design. Since then my paintings have won awards at the
Audubon Artists Annual, The American Artists Professional League and
the Art Guild in Farmington, Ct. Currently my focus is landscapes and
portraiture.
