Book Description: Sumptibus Societatis, Amsterdam, 1714. Calf. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Amsterdam Edition. 4to - 10 Inches. The first Amsterdam printing, and the third edition overall of the greatest scientific book of all time. A very original and honest copy bound in original speckled full calf with raised bands to spine. Spine elaborately gilded. Gilt spine titles on red morocco spine labels. Some mild wear to corners. Minor loss to spine. Upper joint beginning to crack. Armorial bookplate of Blouet de Camilly - François Blouet of Camilly (1664-1723) was Bishop, and later Archbishop of Toul from 1706 to 1723. Also bears an ink name 'Defontaine' in old script to the front pastedown. (28), 484, (7), (1) pages. Collated complete. Tidy internally though a little foxed and browned in places. Folding plate between pages 464-465 in good order with some browning and mild offsetting from text to the verso of the plate. Additional manuscript tracing of a plate from a French edition loosely inserted at rear. Overall a very original, sound copy with some mild external wear. Referenced by: Gray 11; Babson, Supplement, 12.622, page 4.
