IBM THINKPAD 600E - spares or repair

This is an IBM THINKPAD laptop...I am selling it as spares or repair because I know nothing about computers and cannot figure out what is wrong. There is power going to it and it turns on , but then you get an error message. It gives you a repair option which takes you to a window with lots of icons and this is where I'm afraid to try anything in case it makes it worse. It used to run on internet via a 'web-card' thing [for router] but I have kept that for another computer.it has the slot for this [2] , a mic and headphone socket ,a cd dvd drive thing,a phone port,a mouse port,and power cables. I am not sure what works as my daughter only used the internet and cd bit....the screen seems fine with no marks that I could see when I turned it on but it is missing the top covering for the y and u keys.Well, this is the best description I can give so............hope someone who knows what they're doing can fix it up.Also my daughter had some stickers on the cover and there are a few small patches of residue but this will come off with a damp sponge.    Comes with mains adaptor.
