HUGE LIMITED EDITION SANDYGATE POTTERY CHARLES & DIANA LOVING CUP
(COM036)
This truly magnificent loving cup was made by Sandygate Pottery in Devon to commemorate the wedding of Charles and Diana on 29 July 1981.
It is a limited edition piece being number 51 of 250 – please see photo of the base. This photo also shows the Sandygate mark stamped in gilt.
The cup is huge, standing almost 5¾” tall and measuring 5” across the base.
It is highly glazed in brown with gilt decoration. On the front are two joined medallions, the first depicting St. Paul’s Cathedral and the other Lady Diane and Prince Charles in silhouette. The back of the cup has a single medallion with the Prince of Wales plumes, the initials “C” and “D” and the words “The Royal Wedding”. “Saint Paul’s Cathedral” and “Wednesday, 29th July 1981” appear around the bottom of the cup and the rim is decorated with Welsh heraldic designs.
This is an exceptional example of Devon pottery and this loving cup would make a marvellous addition to any collection of commemorative or Devon ware.
It has no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration and is offered in pristine condition.
