Huge Antique Boxed Brass Rolling Rule "J Walker"

This is one of the most striking examples of a rolling rule that I have seen. It is very large - the box is 63cm long - and beautifully made from brass and/or bronze with a lovely inscription of J Walker in flowing script that must be at least Victorian, maybe earlier. I haven't cleaned it at all and there is a layer of grime from extensive use, but it is absolutley in excellent condition, as is the fitted box. It is a really nice, very heavy item weighing in at 3.27kg unpacked. I don't know whether this would have been used primarily for navigation, where the weight would be an advantage when placed on a chart, or in technical or engineering drawing. We have quoted the P&P rate for delivery as a parcel by the Post Office in the UK only - alternative carriers are available at extra cost, for example, Parcelforce will be an extra £5. International buyers should request a quotation for their country.

Paypal is the preferred form of payment and there is no charge for this service. Personal cheques, postal orders and bank drafts are acceptable but these may delay shipment while funds are cleared. All payments must be in UK Pounds.

All goods will be very carefully packed and the quoted cost of delivery includes a small allowance for packing material. We are pleased to discount this P&P cost for multiple purchases wherever possible and, if our estimated proves to have been too high, we will refund any excess payment after shipment. We are happy to ship to almost anywhere in the world - if your country isn't listed please request the P&P cost.

We will refund the bid price including P&P charges if the item has a material defect not previously disclosed, or if it is significantly different from the description given. To obtain such a refund, the item must be returned within a reasonable time in its sold condition. We cannot refund the cost of returning the goods, but we sometimes make an adjustment to the purchase price of the next item bought in special cases. We ask buyers to leave feedback on receipt of the item so that we know it has arrived safely, then we leave our feedback for the buyer.
