Offered for consideration is the book "How to Design and Build Your Own House" by Lupe DiDonno and Phyllis Sperling.  This is a Borzoi book,  published by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., in 1978 and is a first edition.   The book is a hard cover, measuring 9 1/4 x 11 inches with 365 pages. It is in very good used condition, with some wear/soiling to the covers, and light foxing on the first several pages.  The rest of the pages are in excellent condition.

For anyone who has contemplated building their own home, or at the very least, being involved in the design process, this book is an invaluable how-to reference.  It is divided into three sections.  The first part of the book covers the schematic and preliminary design phases.  In this section you will find instructions on how to attack the problem of designing the house from the inside to the outside, with tips on what to avoid when buying property. 

Part Two deals with translating preliminary designs into working drawings.  Included are steps on how to choose and specify those parts of the house ( windows, doors, furnace, hardware ) that can be purchased prefabricated and ready to install, as well as how to evaluate the cost of what you have designed and specified and how to work with the local building codes department.

Part Three is devoted to construction.  Chapter by chapter, room by room, the book progresses through each step required in building your home, from the excavation to the finished walls.  Each chapter in the section covers a complete division of the work, as well as how the materials needed are sold and what tools are needed.
