A very clean example of this classic camera, fully serviced, and guaranteed.
For the benefit of those who don't know (Though I assume anyine looking at this aready does!) the Honeywell name means that this instrument was originally sold in the US. Honeywell was the importer of this Japanese product, and it was not considered good marketing to use the obviously Japanese Asahi name, especially considering that Asahi manufactured a lot of the Japanese military's optics!
This example has been fully servied, which means that.....
The camera has been stripped. Each part cleaned, examined, and lunricated. (With proper lubricants, not WD$0!)
The camera has been internally cleaned, and re-assembled.
All light seals replaced. (Internal ones too.)
The camera is then tested, measured, and adjusted.
The meter switch works properly.
The shutter speeds have been adjusted and are pretty well bang-on on this one.
(They are usually a little adrift of the indicated value, as the method of setting the range of high speeds (1/60 - 1/1000) was by selecting one of a limited set of cams during final assembly. So when testing it's not uncommon to get for example 1/55 - 1/1100 as actual speeds. And that's actually pretty close for a mechanical camera!)
Very good condition overall. There's a bit of tripod scuff, and general marking on the bottom, and there's a couple of specks in the viewfinder, but nothing at all obtrusive. A small patch of lost nickel on the mount ring. Much better than many.
Check the pictures for detail.
The service charge alone is worth at least £55, so you are paying less than it would nomally cost to buy a faulty one and have it serviced. (I buy cameras on eBay too, and take it from me, if it does not say it has been serviced, it hasn't! ) The price reflects what it really costs to sell these cameras in this sort of condition!
(If you really want to attempt a service yourself, take a look at www.mypentax.com I'm happy to offer free advice from there!)
Don't forget, my eBay shop may have several cameras like this one which do not show in normal searches because of the multiple listing rule. There may be minor differences which don't merit title or price differences, but which might matter to you! So don't forget to check it out.
Like all my fully serviced cameras it comes with a three month guarantee, which allows you plenty of time to give the camera a proper try. (Please note that this is not any indication of how long the camera might last, but rather to give any post-service bugs which might crop-up time to surface.)
(A note on Spotmatic light meters, and batteries....
The battery that these used is no longer available, but you can get a smaller zinc-air battery which fits in the space, and is pretty well the same voltage. But.... zinc-air batteries run out whether used or not, once installed, and the special one's you can buy for just this job are expensive. But do not worry! In reality the error caused by using standard silver oxide cells is very small, and at most results in 1/4 of a stop or so difference and then only in poor light, so there is no need to use zinc-air cells at all.)
Please check the photo's carfully for any minor defects or scratches.
(PS: I apologise in advance to anyone living in France, but unfortunately over the past year I (and other UK sellers) have noted an increase in lost parcels sent to French addresses. For this reason I have had to use a more expensive postal service in order to ensure relaible delivery. I do not know the reason for this, but deliveries to France by less expensive means have become rather unrelaible, and the compensation for lost goods paid to businesses is very limited.)
