Honeywel Pentax SP 500 Spotmatic fully Serviced Good

A very clean example of this classic camera, fully serviced, and guaranteed.

For the benefit of those who don't know (Though I assume anyine looking at this aready does!) the Honeywell name means that this instrument was originally sold in the US. Honeywell was the importer of this Japanese product, and it was not considered good marketing to use the obviously Japanese Asahi name, especially considering that Asahi manufactured a lot of the Japanese military's optics!

This example has been fully servied, which means that.....

The camera has been stripped. Each part cleaned, examined, and lunricated. (With proper lubricants, not WD$0!)

The camera has been internally cleaned, and re-assembled.

All light seals replaced. (Internal ones too.)

The camera is then tested, measured, and adjusted.

The meter switch works properly.

The shutter speeds have been adjusted and are pretty well bang-on on this one.

(They are usually a little adrift of the indicated value, as the method of setting the range   of high speeds (1/60 - 1/1000) was by selecting one of a limited set of cams during final assembly. So when testing it's not uncommon to get for example 1/55 - 1/1100 as actual speeds. And that's actually pretty close for a mechanical camera!)

Very good condition overall. There's a bit of tripod scuff, and general marking on the bottom, and there's a couple of specks in the viewfinder, but nothing at all obtrusive. A small patch of lost nickel on the mount ring. Much better than many.

Check the pictures for detail.

The service charge alone is worth at least £55, so you are paying less than it would nomally cost to buy a faulty one and have it serviced. (I buy cameras on eBay too, and take it from me, if it does not say it has been serviced, it hasn't! )

The price reflects what it really costs to sell these cameras in this sort of condition!

(If you really want to attempt a service yourself, take a look at www.mypentax.com I'm happy to offer free advice from there!)

Don't forget,  my eBay shop may have several cameras like this one which do not show in normal searches because of the multiple listing rule. There may be minor differences which don't merit title or price differences, but which might matter to you! So don't forget to check it out.

Like all my fully serviced cameras it comes with a three month guarantee, which allows you plenty of time to give the camera a proper try. (Please note that this is not any indication of how long the camera might last, but rather to give any post-service bugs which might crop-up time to surface.)

(A note on Spotmatic light meters, and batteries....

The battery that these used is no longer available, but you can get a smaller zinc-air battery which fits in the space, and is pretty well the same voltage. But.... zinc-air batteries run out whether used or not, once installed, and the special one's you can buy for just this job are expensive. But do not worry! In reality the error caused by using standard silver oxide cells is very small, and at most results in 1/4 of a stop or so difference and then only in poor light, so there is no need to use zinc-air  cells at all.)

Please check the photo's carfully for any minor defects or scratches.

(PS: I apologise in advance to anyone living in France, but unfortunately over the past year I (and other UK sellers) have noted an increase in lost parcels sent to French addresses. For this reason I have had to use a more expensive postal service in order to ensure relaible delivery. I do not know the reason for this, but deliveries to France by less expensive means have become rather  unrelaible, and the compensation for lost goods paid to businesses is very limited.)

As per payment details laid-out below.

Please note that payments must be made in GBP. Overseas customers may find PayPal the easiest option. Payment methods are not negotiable.

Payment must be made only by the methods shown. If this will cause problems please contact me.

For UK destinations items up to 1kg are sent First-Class Royal Mail. Over this weight Standard Parcels is used. This is due to recent changes in postal pricing. First Class over 1Kg becomes more expensive than Standard parcels. Items over 2kg cannot be sent First Class in any case. (If you really want to pay extra for parcels in the 1-2Kg range let me know before paying. I will look-up the actual cost and add it to the postage.)

Shipping may be combined for multiple items, but this cannot be applied after payment has been made. If you have bought several items in the same working day please wait for your invoice.

Overseas packages are sent Standard Air mail unless otherwise shown. This is not available for parcels over 2Kg, and a different service must be used. As there is a considerable difference in the rates between the services be aware that combining some items may actually cost more than shipping separately.

Packaging and shipping methods are chosen to make sure that your item is delivered safely with as little cost as possible. We dispatch many packages to overseas destinations each year and so far have had no complaints, however if you have special packaging needs then please mail us before paying with your detailed requirements that we may calculate any additional cost, and invoice you accordingly. Once the item has been paid for this will not normally be posiible.

A note about insurance. In most countries the legal responsibility for ensuring goods arrive at their desination is the seller. Anyone who sells you extra insurance is usually selling you something you do not need. Any insurance I require to cover my loss is already included. You normally need not buy extra.

In addition to the terms of sale laid out below buyers are reminded of the following...
All items are sold as used unless otherwise stated in the listing, or it's title.
Used items may have minor defects commensurate with normal wear and tear, including minor functional defects. (Eg, a flash unit may be missing a test button.) Where such defects exist they will be described in text, or shown clearly in photographs.
For used items the pictures shown are photographs of the actual item for sale, and consitiute part of the item description. Where such defects are clearly shown they shall be deemed as described, and items may not be returned as unfit for purpose, or significantly not as described by reason of such a depicted defect. (The item may still be returned as 'unwanted' according to the terms below.)
Buyers are encouraged to examine all pictures carefully to avoid dissapointment.

We aim to accurately describe all the items we sell.

We will not deliberately 'forget' to mention a significant defect in an item listed, and if the listing includes a guarantee we mean it. If an error has been made, we will try and rectify it as soon as is humanly possible.

We do not sell junk. Even used items sold for spares will have useful parts, other used items are repaired or reconditioned as necesary before offering them for sale. New items are...well new!

We believe out customers have a right to assume that the items we sell are in good working condition. If the listing does not describe a fault, or draw your attention to it, then you can safely assume there isn't one.

The cosmetic condition of an item may be rated Excellent, Very Good, Good, Average, Poor, or Very Poor. If this is not mentioned, assume Good!

Please note that while every effort is made to ensure the items are significantly as described, used items may have minor defects due to normal wear and tear not mentioned in the listing. Please be assured that such defects as may be found will not have any significant effect on the use or performance of the item.

Please use email to contact us with all queries.

This is for your convenience, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to answer the telephone, and do not make return calls. (When we have tried there is often no-one there!)

Terms and conditions of the salePrint

Return policy
Customers are a businesses most important asset, without them there is no business. It is important to me that my customers are happy, and return as often as possible, and tell all their freinds what great service I give.

So I try to offer as simple a returns policy as possible.

For all items bought at a fixed price, you have fourteen days (minimum) after you have taken delivery of your item/s in which to assess your purchase, and if you want to return it for any reason, you may. Most items are also covered by a six or three month guarantee.

(The guarantee should not be taken as an indication of how long an item might last. It is simply in order to be sure that any repairs made during the overhaul are OK.)

Items bought at auction, you also usually be guaranteed as above, but the fouteeen day unconditional period may not always apply. (Eg. goods sold for spare parts.) All guarantees will still of course be honoured.

(Please note: If you bid by mistake, and do not want the item, tell me immediately, so I can make a second-chance offer. In these circumstances a non-payment strike can still be awarded by ebay after a refund has been made!)

Please also note: Auctions, including online auctions, are exempted from the requirement for a 'cooling off' period after purchase. You may still return items significantly not as described as required by ebay rules.)

How to make returns.

I do not anticipate that you will need to return any item supplied, but should the need arise please note the following.

If you do decide to return something as unwanted you must email me within seven days of receipt stating that you wish to return it unwanted, irrespective of any prior contact.
You should send it back using a recorded shipping method, and it should be insured. Goods are returned at the returnees risk.

This policy normally includes used items too.

There are a few exclusions.

Items excluded include opened recorded media, certain perishable items, etc.

I may accept such items as date-expired film for return, provided the cartons are returned unopened, so I can be sure it has not been exposed!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR RETURNS

It is important that if you return items, they must be packaged in the same manner as they were sent to you. If an item is returned incorectly, or ineffectively packaged then the item may not be refunded, even if you are returning the item as faulty.

That is because the item may be damaged by such packaging, and even if the item was faulty before returning it, it may be damged further, or be impossible to verify that it was in fact faulty before return.

Neither can I refund items genuinely damaged by the shipping service. I cannot make a claim for goods you have insured. (It's illegal!) You must do this yourself. Make sure you insure returned goods adequately!

For further detail check the pages in my eBay shop.
Most Buy It Now purchases are protected by the Distance Selling Regulations, which allow you to cancel the purchase within seven working days after the day you receive the item. Find out more about your rights as a buyerand exceptions.
