Car Mechanics magazine.

Issue: November 1973.

Car Mechanics magazine is a United Kingdom publication that was published post-war for the thrifty motorist. At the time the cars featured were new on the road, but now they'd rightly be regarded as classics. As the magazine was devoted to the home motorist, the cars were very much of the bread-and-butter variety; Austin, Ford etc. family runabouts. The articles are pretty similar to those you get in Practical Classics today - indeed for many features there would be no difference; fettling the brakes on an A40 then would be no different to fettling them today. I'd go further and state that these magazines featured technical skills that are sorely lost amongst many mechanics these days - most cars now are repaired by simply plugging them into a computer; where's the skill in that?

These magazines are part of my own collection that I'm thinning down - have you any idea of the sheer volume of space that almost 25 years worth of magazines occupies?

I'd also like to think that these magazines are worth the asking price just for the period adverts alone. Some of the stuff is hilarious.

This particular issue has features on:

  • Period adverts.
  • Carb explained.
  • Hillman Imp.
  • Winter protection.
  • Club 100E.
  • Synchro sort-out.
  • Austin A40 overhaul.
  • Rover 2000 shockers.
  • Supercharging.
  • Keeping down the costs of motoring.

I only sell magazines that are in good, as read condition. No missing articles or ripped pages. If you're not happy, then return it for a refund. Please bear in mind that these particular magazines are 40 years old.... like me, they're a bit worn around the edges.
