A Hewlett Packard HP21 Scientific calculator. This model was the first in the HP 20 series. The calculator is an early example of HP's adoption of RPN expression evaluation (Reverse Polish Notation) rather than the more customary algebraic notation. RPN makes it much simpler to evalluate complex expressions. For a description of RPN see http://www.hpmuseum.org/rpn.htm A full list of the calcjulator's features is available at http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp21.htm The calculator works perfectly on battteries (not supplied). The calculator will operate when powered by the included HP charger providing that batteries are installed as a ballast for the charger. If rechargeable batteries are installed then the charger will recharge them. The original batteries failed some time ago. The calculator still has its original charger and carry case which has a loop for attaching it to your belt.
