• This is a very large detailed, delightfully sculpted bust of Hermes.   It is taken from the famous sculpture by Praxiteles of around 300 - 320 B.C. which is in the Museum Olympia.  It is a near perfect of of the bust aspect of the original.
• Hermes was the cleverest of the Olympian gods, and messenger to all the other gods.  He is the fastest of the gods. He wears winged sandals, a winged hat, and carries a magic wand. He is the god of thieves and god of commerce. He is the guide for the dead to go to the underworld. He invented the lyre, the pipes, the musical scale, astronomy, weights and measures, boxing, gymnastics, and the care of olive trees.
• Hand made in Staffordshire, England, from bonded Italian marble.  The bust is made from 96% marble which means it is cold and firm to the touch, as marble should be.  It also means that it is just as suitable for display outside as it is in any room.  It is attached to a solid carved black marble base.  Being hand made, means they are only made in limited numbers and so are very collectable. The detail is superb and these items are often mistaken for art works of great age.
• Measures 20 1/2" high x 13 1/2" wide x 10 1/2" deep (52 cm x 34 cm x 27 cm) approx.  Weight 21 Kg (46 lb 6 oz) approx.
