Sir Henry Macbeth Raeburn after John William Waterhouse

Sir Henry Macbeth Raeburn;  R.A, R.E.; 1860-1947;  Scottish painter and etcher who studied at R.S.A. schools and in Paris. He was areproductive etcher  mostly after his own paintings.

John William Waterhouse; 1849-1917;  English Pre-Raphaelite painter most famous for his paintings of female characters frommythology and literature. He belonged to the later phase of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

A fine etching that is bright and unfaded,  in rich dark blue ink, a very atmospheric image with fine detail and plate tone, the image measuring approx 18 cms. x 24 cms. (7 x 9¼ ins.) within a fine, but well defined platemark and impression. Printed on a wove paper sheet measuring 22 cms. x 29 cms. (8¾ x 11½ ins.)
 
Signed in the image

As printed for the Magazine of Art published 1880, the print is unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image is excellent and thesheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
