A rare French language edition of the classic story of slavery in the southern states of Harriet Beecher Stowe (June 14, 1811 – July 1, 1896) was an American abolitionist and author. Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852) depicted life for African-Americans under slavery; it reached millions as a novel and play, and became influential in the U.S. and Britain and made the political issues of the 1850s regarding slavery tangible to millions, energizing anti-slavery forces in the American North, while provoking widespread anger in the South. Upon meeting Stowe, Abraham Lincoln allegedly remarked, "So this is the little old lady who started this new great war!" Thomas Derrick, born 1885 in Bristol, England, died 1954, was a prolific artist and illustrator. He studied at the Royal College of Art, where he later exhibited and lectured in decorative painting. He is best known for mural designs and illustration work, which regularly appeared in Punch. He also painted portraits and designed stained glass. Derrick designed three posters for the London Underground in the 1920s. WILL DISPATCH WORLDWIDE
