This is a solid English oak table, which was handmade to measure in 2005. I never thought I would sell it, it's built to last centuries, but now I'm married, the pregnant wife wants a collapsible table and I currently have other urgent expenses. The table is on a solid oak floor, which doesn't help the contrast of the pictures! It is on a 10 day listing because it just wouldn't feel right to rush the auction of something that I intended to keep as an heirloom.
The real quality of this item is that the top, measuring 1.68m (5'6") x 86cm (2'10") x 3.6cm (1 1/2"), is made from just three pieces of oak. The whole thing is immmensely sturdy with legs 9.5cm (almost 4inches) square and is about 78cm (30.5") high. To cater for expansion the top is held to the base by 16 "cleats" (5 shown in photo) sitting in a groove. The whole thing is very heavy, and it's very hard work for two men to carry it into a property. It is protected by a durable two-pack satin finish that allows the grain of the oak through.
The starting bid is a reflection of how much I like the table and avoids the annoying reserve fee, but is also less than the guy who built it would buy it back for. It is for collection only from Edgbaston in Birmingham, and preferably cash on collection (and satisfaction). There will not be a "Buy It Now" price.
I also have two solid oak church pews (one photo'd), shortened to 1.35m that I would be prepared to consider reasonable offers for, although they are in need of a bit of tidying up.
