A really capacious German majolica dish in a delicious dark chocolate and acqua colourway with deep tangerine roses. The sides and broad surround sport a basketweave effect and the centre is splashed with a pool of various tones of soft acqua. The underside of the piece is glazed but undecorated and in a natural oatmeal colour.

         

       

Estimated to have been made during the first part of the last century it is in very good condition without chip, crack or restoration. The reverse is splashed with colour which happened during manufacture. There are small areas of roughness to the central acqua area, whether these were intentional from the first or are signs of usewear is not known. (Please see images).

      

     

Displays magnificently, a really good example of its genre.
