This very large antique book is not dated, it was published in England circa 1855 -1860 and contains 72 biographical accounts of important people who's actions helped to create The History Of England from the 12th century to the 18th century.
There are far to many to list but include: Sir Francis Drake, William Shakespeare, Sir Walter Raleigh, Francis Bacon, John Milton, John Dryden, Sir Christopher Wren, Sir Isaak Newton, Daniel Defoe, Jonathon Swift, and William Hogarth.

A portrait of all the 72 persons in this work is included on 12 large plates, 6 on each page and there are 11 full page color plates, Dryburgh Abbey, Chaucher,
Monument of Lord Byron, Shrine of Henry the fifth, House of John Knox Edinburgh,
 The Shakespeare jubilee at Stratford Upon Avon, Statue of Charles I at Charing Cross, Milton's monument in St Giles Church Cripplegate, St Stephens Walbrook,
Old palace at Greenwich, & Statue of Sir Isaac Newton at Cambridge.
Plus over 200 small illustrations.

CONDITION
Original publishers three quarter leather binding, spine with blind tooled decorations and gilt lettered title, a good solid binding. Pages are generally clean foxing etc. to plates.
A large and heavy volume.
