F-Style Bouzouki - Sunburst

A beautifully styled, arched top Bouzouki from Hudson featuring a solid spruce top and classic “F” styling, based on Gibson’s Mandolins from the 1900`s. From the elegant scroll headstock to the traditional Rosewood floating bridge and deep vintage sunburst finish, this is a premium quality instrument.

Featuring a slightly longer scale length than an Irish Bouzouki this Hudson has slightly more volume and attack. The tone is also improved by the combination of a solid Spruce top and Maple back and sides.

The Hudson “F” style Bouzouki, a class leading instrument created for the musician looking for superior quality feel and tone.

The construction of this Bouzouki has been carefully executed by the skilled Hudson team. It is a power house of balance and tone. The sound produced is both full and resonant, with great carrying power. To achieve this sound Hudson have paid very careful attention to the internal finishing of this instrument. Allowing this Bouzouki to resonate so beautifully. This aspect of stringed instrument building is often ignored by other manufactures. Hudson stringed instruments excel in this important area of manufacture. Its what you cant see that counts.

Hudson crafted this instrument with the musician in mind. A lovely playable maple neck is set into the body and not bolted on like cheaper instruments.

This neck has a traditional “D” profile, for fast easy playing. The rosewood fingerboard and quality fretting further enhance the musical experience and feel. It also has a truss rod fitted for full neck adjustment.

The elegant lines of this Hudson are complemented with the addition of the beautiful vintage sunburst. There is also multiple binding on the body and headstock.

The tuning machine heads are a vintage open gear design. Smooth and stable allowing the Hudson to be tuned easily. The bridge is a floating traditional style, height adjustable (thumbwheels) in Rosewood.

The Traditional chrome tail piece is easily removed for quick string replacement and maintenance. The famous Hudson headstock logo is inlayed in perloid for that added touch of class.

The devil is in the detail and the quality of this instrument speaks for itself. Just compare the Hudson Bouzoukis specifications and sound with its competitors.

Did you know,

The bouzouki is a stringed instrument first introduced from Greece into Ireland in the Sixties, a time when Irish traditional music was undergoing great experimentation. So although a relative newcomer to Irish folk music it has also be warmly accepted by musicians looking for a new sound to give there music the edge

A few craftsman developed it further by using different woods and affecting alterations to the string arrangements such as the Bailey and the Abennett Bouzouki.

But it was the prototype that Donal Lunny first commissioned while a member of Planxty that was to become known as the Irish bouzouki that is so popular today.

Normally tuned G-D-A-E (an octave below mandolin or violin), with octave strings on the G & D, for a brilliant Chorus effect. Also very effective in G-D-A-D and other open tunings.

The bouzouki was picked up by irish musicians travelling abroad and adapted for their use by retuning to GDAE. Modern makers like Hudson then started producing them with flat backs which made them almost identical to the octave mandola. The crucial difference is the scale length, which is slightly longer.

There is a fashion in bouzouki playing now to experiment with slightly different tunings rather like guitar players do (see The Irish Bouzouki) which is to be commended. The Irish Bouzouki has a bright and open sound, and is easy to hold and has a distinctive sound that cuts through when played with other acoustic instruments.

Today the Bouzouki is found in many forms of music including Rock and Blues and experimental. String players, like guitarist seem to adapt easily to playing the Bouzouki.
