1. HEROIC HEARTS
by Webster Simpson
viii + 168 pages
ISBN 0-9538690-3-2
Cover notes:
"Doctors Huw and Zara Morgan are on holiday on the Solway Firth when they become aware of IRA weapons and explosives being smuggled ashore. Having, in their younger days, been involved in intelligence work for the British Secret Service, they decide to investigate. They are captured by the smugglers and imprisoned in a disused ice-house on the shore.
Physical escape being impossible, Huw seeks relief from his immediate discomfort by recalling the circumstances in which he met Zara during the latter days of World War 2. Back then, as a young Naval Officer in the Special Boat Squadron, he had penetrated the Scheldt Estuary to gather intelligence about the mine fields and other defences that the Allies would have to overcome if they were to be able to open up the port of Antwerp. Whilst on this mission, Huw was in radio contact with his controller in Britain, Zara. They fell in love and married. Eventually, they both qualified as doctors, she as a surgeon, he as a GP.
In civilian life, they continued to communicate secretly with one another by Morse code, a talent that they were able to put to good use in the years they worked in Northern Ireland, gathering intelligence for the anti-terrorist forces whilst patching up wounded IRA men.
Now, in the latter days of their lives, the opportunity to serve their country again presents itself and they eventually are able to frustrate the IRA plan to bring a fresh bombing campaign to the streets of London."
2. VILLAIN OR VICTIM?
viii + 166 pages
ISBN 0-9538690-2-4
Cover notes:
"The story of two very different men, each relentlessly pursuing very different lives but both bound for destruction.
The one, David Campbell, a likeable but lonely young man, witnesses his family suffer as a result of the Russian Revolution and the effects of international communism. The hatred this generates over-rides all patriotic feeling as he watches with horror the tide of war turn and realises that the defeat of Germany at the hands of the Russians will lead in turn to the eventual occupation of all Europe by the Stalinist hordes. Throughout the war he transmits vital information to his country's foes in the belief that stopping Stalin is more important than defeating Hitler.
The other man knows no principles, being driven only by perverted sexual passion and the need to gratify his desire for the power of life and death. Operating in blacked-out Glasgow, he strikes terror into the hearts of a whole community.
Both escape detection, but both die of a broken neck."
