HARDY ‘THE WYE’ PALAKONA CANE SALMON ROD + THE 'PERFECT' 4.1/4" SALMON FLY REEL. You are looking at “The WYE”, 12’6”, 1960 Superb and rare Palakona Cane, Salmon Rod. This is the very best Hardy all-round Salmon Rod for general purposes. A stout, powerful design of butt action for long casting and spey casting if required. Pieces: Three pieces with (two tips), "Both the same length" Palakona split bamboo. Handle: Cork shaped. Joints: Spiral lockfast. Rings: Agatipe butt and end with Fullopen bridge intermediate. Tyings: Ordinary spaced narrow bands crimson inter-whipped silk. Joints: on rod tied with copper wire. Reel fittings and furnishings: Screw grip with fixed fitting, L.R.H. rubber button. Length: 12’6” Handle: 24” Weight: 22 ozs. This rod was the most expensive cane rod produced by Hardy’s in 1960 and if Hardy’s was to make up a new one today, it would cost over two thousand Pounds. As far as I know, they do not make up a Cane Salmon fly rod anymore because of the very high cost, and only manufacture Trout Cane rods. The rod comes with a Hardy's hard tube and its original bag. Please Note: The condition of this rod is 'original', never been refurbished, near new and from my private collection. The rod above comes complete with the Hardy Perfect 4”.1/4” x1.1/2” wide reel. The “Perfect” alloy Salmon Reel complete in its leather, case and rare Hardy corona, silk salmon line & backing, (£150.00). The ‘Perfect’ first introduced in the year 1891 has been modified to take advantage of modern engineering practise and is made of aluminium alloy in three solid parts (the line drum, frame and revolving plate). It is fitted with ball bearings and is almost frictionless. The check work is patent compensating design, which may be regulated to brake a fish, or when desired ‘striking’ can be done direct from the reel (the tension being increased or decreased at the pleasure of the user according to the fineness of the tackle). The great advantage of the regulator is that when properly adjusted, breakage's through too hard striking do not occur. The reel is a right hand retrieve . This reel with its wide drum for salmon fly fishing takes around 100 yd, 25-lb of line and backing, and approx. weight is 13 ozs. The reel is in an excellent-plus condition. |
