About XDiscs
Even with modern pad materials, they always reach their limits when hot, making the resins binding them together melt and vaporise. The vapour boiling off the surface of the pad is what makes the pad 'hover' on the disc surface and the driver feels 'brake fade'. This resin is the smell of 'hot brakes'.  A certain brand leader of 'performance' 'low dust' pads we have found is the worst offender for this resin failure, so much so that they can leave resin on the disc making for very noisy uncomfortable braking for many miles afterwards.  Grooved discs aren't just there to give cars a modern performance look, they really work.  The grooves and dimples act to remove the gasses before they can build up allowing the brakes to work more effectively especially when hot.  As the heat builds so the benefit increases over standard discs.

Groove thermal warping resistance:
When a brake disc surface becomes hot it naturally expands as all heated metal does.  This expanding metal needs space to expand into but the edge of the disc is fixed in diameter and very strong so the tendency of a hot disc is to become a wavy shape to give the metal a path to expand into, it is when this shape stays that you are left with warped discs that make the braking feel lumpy.  Grooved discs create gaps for the disc material to expand into, taking up the excess material without warping, then as it heats and cools it maintains its shape. This means much greater warping resistance.

Clean up glaze:
Not only do the grooves remove gasses and dust from the pads, but they keep the pad faces flatter leading to more even pad wear and avoiding disc damage.  The resins that set on the pad surface after brakes have been overheated, form a hard glaze with very little friction making for ineffective brakes. The disc grooves clean up the pad faces to fresh braking material making the pads work again at their optimum very quickly.

Disc material:
Very cheap brake discs are made from very cheap material unsuitable for brake discs.  You may wonder why one company can sell an identical looking brake at half the cost. Why?  Because they are only any good as a boat anchor!  The technology in brake discs and their frictional and stress performance comes from the material they are made from first and foremost.  Cheap discs are made from scrap iron mixed with other materials that are totally unsuitable for brake discs.  They are full of internal stresses which cause the brake discs to warp and crack. They contain defects and sections of un-mixed metal that can fail, and the material simply doesn't produce enough friction for use as a brake disc.  XDiscs are made from high grade material that has been specifically blended to create high performance brake discs, by minimising internal stresses and maximising friction, strength, warp resistance and heat dissapation.  Setting us apart from budget braking.  We may cost a little more, but what is the price for performance and safety.

Water dispersal:
When driving through floods or even just heavy road spray, the water that is splashed over the discs has a tendency to spread over the surface and stay there for many miles due to the surface tension of the water.  If you haven't used your brakes for a time while cruising along a motorway for example, you may be surprised when you need your brakes, for a second or two there is nothing when you press the pedal, sometimes many miles after the brakes first became wet. These couple of seconds can be the difference in avoiding an accident.  Some modern cars actually automatically apply the brake lightly every mile or so to disperse possible water build up, but even this leaves the disc open to 'water skin' effect between clearings.  The grooves in our discs have an extra beneficial feature of breaking the surface tension of the 'water skin' allowing the centrifugal force of the rotating disc as you drive helping to instantly clear any water splashed onto the disc.

Why We Dimple instead of Drill through a disc.....
Some of our disc designs feature hemispherical dimples as well as the grooves in the surface of the disc. The benefits of drilling and dimpling are largely due to the sudden expansion space that the pocket passing the pad face creates. This allows the gassing pad surface to release the trapped gas and let the pad area press effectively against the disc.  By carefully positioning the dimples to track over as much of the pad area as possible the whole face can be relieved many times a second.  The dimples pass under the pad so quickly that there is no need to vent into the core of the disc like holes do, for the same benefit.  Holes do the same job but at a price.  They may look good but there are many drawbacks.  The holes on cheap drilled discs often are placed with no reference to the cooling vanes inside the disc so they break through at random positions affecting the balance and integrity of the disc structure.  The holes adversely affect the flow of cooling air that is traveling through the vent vanes.  But most importantly of all the holes cause stress concentrations that crack across each hole with alarming regularity, making the disc scrap and dangerous.  Our Hemispherical 'Dimples' have all the benefits of the drilling while massively reducing any cracking problems on our discs.  Safer more effective braking.

We aim to dispatch all orders within 3 working days from order receipt and send all disks by courier service.

Return Policy:  We provide the disc dimensions to help you to confirm that you are ordering the correct disc, and we always ask you to give your vehicle details to us to help us to make sure you are ordering the correct disc for your car. However often vehicle brakes are changed mid production and any model of car can have variations on the brakes fitted during its production. Also the ductile iron blanks for some of the older cars are slowly taken out of production so on rare occasions the discs are no longer produced, and with a large catalogue there can often be a delay in a particular advert being taken down.  We will not use cheap alternatives, as the high quality disc material is paramount to the quality and function of the discs.  Because of this we have an excellent returns and refund system in place.  If you buy a disc that is no longer available you will be informed immediately and refunded in full. If your order will be delayed for any reason we will contact you immediately and let you know the cause of the delay and give the option to wait or be refunded in full and we can even email you when they are in stock again.  If you receive the discs and find you have the wrong discs for your car we will have the discs collected at no charge to you and get in contact with you to fully determine which discs you have so we can send the correct replacements. Where the discs cannot be determined through your measurements etc we will again offer a full refund.
