A very large print of a Thangka painting by Andy Weber, a highly renowned UK Thangka painter, entitled the "Green Tara with 21 Taras" (the 21 Emanations of Tara). Professionally printed on glossy paper.

Tara (tibetan 'Jetsun Drolma') is a female Buddha (Vajrayana) and Bodhisattva (Mayahana), said to be born from tears of compassion wept by Avalokiteshvara (tibetan 'Chenrezig'). The depiction of 21 Taras surrounding Green Tara derives from the tantra of the 'Twenty-One Praises of Tara' spoken by the Buddha Samantabhadra, where each verse focuses on a different Emanation of Tara. Various practices incorporate recitation of the 21 Praises of Tara in Vajrayana Buddhism.

For the past 18 months, Dharmaland was off-line because we had an illness in the family, and we had to take time off to be with our family. We received many kind words of support and we thank you all for your kindness and patience, they have meant a lot to us.

What we do at Dharmaland

We have been handmaking our high quality mats and cushions for many years now, for many clients in the UK and abroad. Our purpose in business is to provide custom-made meditation equipment for people who do not find sitting comfort on industrially made cushions and mats. We have designed and made cushions for many hundreds of people, some with special needs and others just keen to have a meditation support that was carefully and skilfully made by another spiritual person, exactly to their specs and requirements.

A new approach to meditation mats and cushions

We would not dream of buying a pair of shoes without asking for the size we know is right for us. Shoewear does not come in "one size fits all". But meditation cushions do. Most companies sell industrially made, mass produced mats, cushions & benches of standard dimensions. This situation certainly benefits the company makes these goods - but not always the person who uses them.
We have somehow come to expect that our bodies will just adapt to whatever shape, height, firmness of support we place them on. But the wrong meditation support can result in back pain, neck pain, in any type and level of discomfort, as a great many of us have experienced. Buddha Shakyamuni spent years enduring unbearable hardship only to realise that spiritual progress is not a result of physical pain. It makes intuitive sense that we ought not suffer in meditation. Very advanced meditators may gain benefit from subjugating the body to hardship, but most of us have not reached this level of practice. In fact, for many of us, physical discomfort is a major obstacle to meditation.

Made with care and a lot of attention to detail

We believe that people benefit from having the right meditation support. It starts with the right cushion - height, diameter, firmness - and the right mat (size, softness), but it goes beyond that. We believe that it is easier to meditate if you feel good about what you sit on. So we really go to great lengths to ensure you do! We make our mats and cushions individually, one by one: we do not outsource or buy them in from sweatshops in third world countries. We handle everything with great care and attention - we would never work on a mat or cushion if we were angry, for example - and we hold wishes during the process of making each item. We visualise that we stitch these wishes and mantras into the fabric when we sew your mat, your cushion, your meditation clothes. And everything is made from very high quality materials which we source ourselves. Oh, did we not mention that? You get to chose your materials, too!.

You are very welcome to return an item that you do not like : our goal is to support your meditation and your spiritual life, not to sell you something that does not work for you.
We ask that you let us know as soon as you receive the item that it is not what you want. Re, our handmade meditation cushions and mats: We encourage you to try out meditation cushions and mats for a day or so to make sure it is right for you. 
Re. consumables (e.g. incense, candles etc) : we can only refund for complete & unopened packs. If you bought a lot of say 6 and have opened 1 only to find you do not like it, we will refund those you return unopened. 
ALL ITEMS: we will refund you the full purchase cost MINUS the postage cost which you have paid; you will also have to pay the postage cost for returning the item to us. 
We ask you to return items to us in the same state in which we sent it to you, so we can sell them on. Items that are returned in a faulty condition will not receive a full refund since we cannot sell them on, and we generally end up donating them to a charity. Our judgement is always honest and final on this matter. 

Re. our meditation cushions and mats and our handmade gemstone malas: We offer a life-long repair and maintenance service.
