Graceful Victorian French MAJOLICA Corn Vase c1880








Description

This is a wonderful, graceful Antique French Continental Majolica Vase in the shape of two cobs of corn complete with their husks.

 

The gorgeous green of the husk and deep yellows of the corn. The husk are formed with such graceful waves. The colours are quite deep and not as in the one close up.

 

It is impressive how the leaves realistically bend over and there is also a petite cob in it's husk next to it.

 

The inside there looks like a firing hole leading to the small side cob. There is also a small hole at the base under the small cob as well.

 

The bottom is unglazed as some Majolica was, contrary to popular belief that all Majolica is glazed. There are two impressed letters on the base, what looks like an A with it's right leg mostly missing and what looks like a K. I am sorry but in my research I was unable to glean the maker of this lovely piece.

 

The vase stands 10.5" (26.5 cm) high and has a circumference of 18.5" (47 cm).

 

There is no crazing to be seen but there is a little bit of age related peppering.

 

Just below one of the husk leaves there is a factory flaw that looks like where a bubble burst. It measures .25" in length and does not detract from the beauty of this colourful vase. Please keep in mind the size of the flaw in relation to the quite large size of the vase when viewing the close up.
