MORGAN STRICKLAND DECORATIVE ARTS

This beautiful German Art Nouveau Jugendstil pewter and glass vase was made at the WMF factory in about 1905. It is modelled with two Art Nouveau maidens in high relief and has wonderful flowing and elegant lines.

Without any doubt the WMF factory were the most prolific and one of the most forward thinking producers or artistic metal ware in the Art Nouveau period. There were many companies producing Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts metal ware in competition with WMF; in England Liberty & Co had their Tudric pewter line; in the Netherlands Urania and Jan Eisenloffel were creating innovate design and in Germany Kayserzinn, Orivit and Osiris all created some outstanding work. WMF were noted not only for forward thinking design but also for the exquisite quality of production and their work is more highly prized today than ever.

The vase measures 14½ inches tall and is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. It has been professionally polished to a very high standard. The glass liner may be a replacement but is mouth blown and conforms exactly to the original. It is marked to the base with the WMF running Ostrich mark.
