Golden Eagle Sculpture by David Frisby
Beautifully crafted life-size Golden Eagle made from native dead woods and barks mounted on a willow stump base.
This impressively lifelike sculpture is unsurpassed and has to be seen to be believed. The work took almost five years to complete and is the result of painstaking work by the artist. There are over 1000 individually carved and coloured feathers, each one burnished to create a light bloom. The wing feathers are made from Hawthorn, Ash and Oak, the small neck and underwing covert feathers are formed in Ash and Spruce bark. The head and body of the bird is built around a skeleton framework of Sycamore and Ash feathered with Elm bark whilst the beak is carved in Limewood. The talons are made from recycled Ebony. No laquers or oils have been used at all in the finish, giving a completely natural and organic, almost lifelike effect.
The sculpture weighs approximately 72lbs, with the eagle itself weighing about 14lbs- the approximate weight of a large female Golden Eagle with a wingspan of six feet.
