Godfrey Phillips Ltd – Soldiers of the King – cigarette cards, 1939. This is a group of 66 cards titled Soldiers of the King that were given in packets of Godfrey Phillips cigarettes in 1939. The complete set had 36 cards. Two types were issued – some with adhesive backs, and some regular. The person who collected these cards has saved both types and while I could split them into their two types and sell them separately, I am going to sell these as one lot as not many are the non-adhesive cards (marked Godfrey Phillips Ltd on the back) and they fill a couple of gaps if you want the image and not the back of the card. There are 17 of these. The non-adhesive cards are 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 x 2, 13, 18, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30, 32, 33, 34, and 35. The Adhesive backed cards (Marked The ‘Greys’ Cigarettes) are 2, 3 x 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 x 2, 10 x 2, 11, 12 x2, 13 x 3, 14 x2, 15 x 2, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 x 2, 21, 22, 23 x 2, 27, 28 x 2, 29 x 2, 30 x 2, 31 x 2, 32 x 2, 33, 34 x 2, and 35 x 2. A very few of the cards show slight signs of handling, with around five having very small hard-to-spot creases.
