Compass is housed in an enormous brass gimbald case that is suspended from a gimbal mount
This compass was designed to be mounted inside a binnacle in the ships pilot house
A fine example of a high quality English instrument made by H.S.T.M.I of Hull a port renowned for its whaling & fishing fleets from the 13th century and the home of Trinity House and Trinity Navigation School since 1389
