Georgian Revival Mahogany Secretaire Wardrobe Armoire
Free Delivery to United Kingdom and Ireland

Description:
This is a beautiful quality late 19th to early 20th Century Georgian Revival flame mahogany, boxwood and ebony strung with ebony banding to the doors and drawers, four door compactum wardrobe armoire / escritoire / secretaire.  The wardrobe stands on a moulded blind plinth rising over which are two full height mirrored doors with ebony banding and boxwood and ebony stringing with beautiful arched mahogany frames with a moulded edge and plain glass to the centre of the doors.  To the centre are three drawers with a pull-out writing slide, having a green leather skiver with gold tooling.  There are two beautiful flame mahogany veneered doors with oval flame mahogany panels set in a rectangular flame mahogany panel, having boxwood and ebony stringing to the oval with chequered boxwood and ebony stringing and ebony banding.  Plain pilasters flank either side, having boxwood stringing to the outer side, rising above which is the moulded flared cornice with boxwood dentilation having an ebony banded boxwood and ebony strung frieze.  The wardrobe retains its original handles with working swivel catches, although we have no keys, but the locks are almost certainly in full working order, the catches to each of the doors working well.  Behind the centre door is a single removable shelf.  The wardrobe retains its original bleached mahogany interior and back panels.  Behind the outer full height doors there are single fitted shelves and original fitted rails and hooks.  The wardrobe retains its original handles to the drawers, the drawers having mahogany linings with hand-cut dovetail joints.  A very nice quality piece of furniture, very unusual having the writing / brushing slide with a leather inlay for letter writing.

Date:
The wardrobe dates circa 1890 - 1900.
