George III Mahogany drop leaf / gate leg dining table circa 1760. The table is plain with the decoration restricted to reed mouldings on the outer corners of the four heavy square legs. The patina of both drop leaves looks well matched, however, one leaf looks like it has been replaced sometime in its long history. The leaves show a little slight warping and both show slight splits that do not compromising the stability of the structure. The middle section and leaves have some old scratches and water marks consistent with age and use, the worse of which is seen in the photograph. The rule joint and hinges are sound and sturdy. Underneath shows marks caused by the action of the gate leg. The gate leg joints look original and sound, the hinges also look original. The table shows no sign of worm and is generally in a good sound sturdy condition with a lovely rich patina and great character. The finish is wax polish. Any other questions please ask.
