Georgian George III Mahogany Writing Table Desk Bureau
Free Delivery to United Kingdom and Ireland

Description:
This is a very nice quality late 18th early 19th Century George III period bureau / writing table / desk in solid mahogany.  The bureau stands on bracket feet rising above which is the four drawer configuration with four long drawers, having cock-beaded edges with beautiful figured timbers with original locks fitted having a later fitted lock to the base drawer.  The chest has beautiful swan-neck dropper handles which appear to be original.  The top drawer is slightly shorter to allow for the two pull-out loppers on either side, having solid oak runners and turned brass knobs.  The drawers have pine linings with hand-cut dovetail joints.  Rising above is the solid mahogany fall front with beautiful figuring and a very decorative Rococo design scroll engraved and cast brass escutcheon, surmounted by a solid mahogany top and solid mahogany sides.  The bureau has a beautiful rich colour.  When opened reveals an interior fitted with seven drawers, a single door and six pigeon holes.  The pigeon holes are lined in oak, as are the drawers, having solid mahogany fronts, with solid mahogany partitions for the pigeon holes.  There is a single door to the centre which would originally have had a lock fitted but this has been removed and has a later fitted brass knob.  There are beautiful brass droppers, one appearing to be a replacement, the rest original, the drawers again having solid oak linings with hand-cut dovetails to the drawers.  The bureau comes with a key which throws the lock but does not fully open, the key fitted for ease of opening the fall front. The beautiful bureau from the Georgian period.

Date:
The bureau dates circa 1800.

Condition:
The bureau has been fully restored at some period during its history and is in very nice condition having been sympathetically re-finished keeping a good colour to the bureau.
