G. Willis Pryce

George Willis Pryce was the leading member of the Pryce family of artists that came from Birmingham and painted during the latter part of the 19^th Century up until the early part of the 20^th Century.

Pryce was listed as living in Handsworth Birmingham in 1885 and painted many local views including one of Handsworth Church which is in the collection of the Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum.

He exhibited at ;

                            The Royal Society of Artists Birmingham

                            The Royal Watercolour Society, and

                            The Birmingham Art Gallery.

Provenance:                Private collection, from the estate of a friends deceased uncle.      

Description:                 One of the best quality George Willis Pryce oil paintings we have had in many years, his early work was superior to his latter paintings that suffered in quality due to failing eye sight.

                                      It is within its original Victorian frame and inner slip, and signed bottom left corner  " G Willis Pryce".           

Condition:                    The painting is in  good overall condition, needing a slight clean and there is a minor scuff where the mountains meet the sky ( see photo for detail)

                                      The frame is the original Victorian one and as you can see from the photos has lost some of the edging moulding. This could be restored and I would estimate the cost between £30 -£60
