George CATLIN. LAST RAMBLES AMONGST THE INDIANS OF THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS & THE ANDES. 24 Woodcuts. Gall & Inglis, no date but the inscription is dated 1878. Hardback, publisher's dark blue cloth elaborately decorated in black & gilt, 7 inches tall by 5 across, 352 pages, 24 b&w illustrations, some full-page. Whitening to the cloth caused by damp along the outer edges of the boards, inner hinges beginning to crack, but still a bright clean copy. Gift inscription on the front pastedown, dated 2nd May 1878. Manners, Customs, and Condition of the North American Indians, Catlin's masterpiece, was first published in two volumes in 1841 and covered the journeys he had made in the 1830s. Between 1852 and 1857 he explored South & Central America and also returned to his stamping grounds in the West. His account of these later voyages was first published in 1868, and this is the first subsequent reprint.
