FORMER WATCHERS AND OTHERS, PLEASE NOTE SUBSTANTIAL PRICE REDUCTION! IF THIS ITEM DOES NOT SELL BY THIS SUNDAY, I WILL NOT BE LISTING IT ON EBAY AGAIN AS I WILL BE GIVING IT AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT MYSELF. This is a tremendously fun historical artefact which I purchased many years ago from a shop near the British Museum. At that time it was identified as being from c.1590 and recovered from a Thames shipwreck. The maker's mark of a crowned rose, in the bowl near the stem, also shows the Tudor origin. Overall length: 6.9". Bowl: 2.4" long by 2" wide. Pewter tableware would have been used by the 'middle classes' of the day, and closely imitated the sizes, shapes and styles of the sterling silver items then used only by the very rich; the working classes made do with wood. A great gift for the budding historian, archaeologist or enthusiast of Queen Elizabeth I and her age. |
