This gorgeous antique French carved pediment dates from the late 1800s and would originally have topped a large armoire.
It would be superb to embellish the top of a doorway or window and could be a superb starting point for a bed hanging/canopy project.
The walnut has taken on a delicious warm colour with the passage of time and I have left it just as I found it, although it will polish if required. It could also be wonderful painted old French grey for a shabby chic project.
The central cartouche is a raised oval within a shield shape below which are acanthus leaf scrolls.
This is a good weighty solid piece that measures:
Width 32 and 1/2" (83cms)
Height at central cartouche 12" (31cms)
Depth 1 and 1/2" ( at the protruding oval) 4cms.
There is a little old woodworm commensurate with age that has been treated and should not spread any further.
A stunning period treasure for any period home.
